The Twenty-Four Solar Terms is a calendar system that splits a year into even smaller portions than spring, summer, fall, and winter. At Izutsuya, we carefully choose delicious ingredients that align with this natural rhythm depending on the season and day. The menu changes daily as we consult on the best seasonal ingredients and flavors.

Over the years, the seventh successor who enjoys Omotesenke tea ceremony has incorporated various adaptations in the traditional tea ceremony cuisine using seasonal ingredients, thus creating pure and gentle Kyoto-style flavors. Please enjoy our unique dishes filled with Kyoto's rich flavors.

Even if you're not sleeping over, you can still enjoy an Izutsuya cuisine. Sit at our counter and enjoy seasonal kaiseki and sake while chatting with our chef. Alternatively, you can utilize our banquet hall or private rooms for various occasions like family gatherings, engagement ceremonies, mourning rituals, celebrations of seasonal festivals, etc.

~~Tracing the Path Along the History of Kyoto~~
The story begins in the late Edo period, the ten years of Tenpo (1839 in the Western calendar). Izutsuya was founded to provide food and lodging for travelers and monks visiting the Higashi Honganji Temple, the main temple of the Otani sect of Shinshu. 

Since then, for over 180 years, we have cherished the traditions of Kyoto and offered the best hospitality of each era. 
Today, we are loved and frequented by literati and artists from Japan and abroad.
